If its silhouette reminds you of anything, that’s because it carries some cues from the XUV700—but this model has been engineered as a pure EV from the ground up, using Mahindra’s dedicated electric platform. One major highlight that instantly grabs attention in its pricing. The XEV 9S comes in at an attractive starting figure of ₹19.95 lakh for the variant equipped with the 59 kWh battery pack, making it a competitive option in India’s EV market.
Mahindra XEV 9S: Design & Looks
From the front, the XEV 9S carries some familiar cues from the XEV 9E, but it still manages to establish its own identity. The front lighting setup is noticeably broader on the 9S, giving it a more assertive look. You’ll also find Mahindra’s new Infiniti logo placed neatly within the covered front panel, positioned lower than where it appears on the XEV 9E’s bonnet.
Lifting the hood reveals a 150-litre frunk, which adds genuinely practical storage space. While the overall stance stance may remind you of the XUV700, Mahindra has made key revisions. For example, the XEV 9S rides on 18-inch wheels, unlike the BE 6 and XEV 9E, which are available with 19-inch and even 20-inch options.
Along the sides, the EV features glossy trim elements—something we’ve already seen across Mahindra’s new-age electric SUVs. The lower portion of the body also gets a gloss finish, cleverly marking the area where the battery pack is integrated.
The Mahindra XEV 9S comes in at 4737 mm logo, 1900 mm wide, and 1747 mm tall. Moving toward the rear section, the SUV carries a familiar roof profile—similar to the one seen on the XUV700. In fact, several body panels, including the doors and window frame, are shared between the two models.
As you continue toward the back, the design begins to differ more noticeably. The tail lamps feature a hidden-style housing with a glossy finish and full LED treatment. Even the smaller detailing elements illuminate, adding a stylish, almost shimmering effect when the lights are on.
The rear fascia is highlighted by a bold strip of gloss black, accompanied by the XEV 9S badge positioned below. More gloss trim sits lower on the bumper, making it clear that this EV has its own distinct identity despite borrowing some cues from the XUV700.
Mahindra XEV 9S: Inside the Cabin
The interior of the XEV 9S will feel very familiar to anyone who has seen the XEV 9E, as Mahindra has continued with the same overall layout. The dashboard design remains unchanged, and the cabin is built around a three-screen setup that gives it a modern, tech-focused look.
Even today, this arrangement manages to leave a strong visual impression. The SUV includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, another 12.3-inch touchscreen in the center, and a separate screen provided for the passenger.
The passenger display is smooth to use, and thanks to built-in 5G support, it can handle streaming and entertainment apps without a hiccup. However, one drawback still exists: this screen doesn’t have a privacy layer. Because of that, whatever is played on it can be visible to the driver as well, which might interrupt the driving focus, especially when videos are running.
The touch-sensitive buttons on the center console—like the one for hazard lights—don’t offer the most reassuring feedback and could feel more responsive. Apart from that, the driver’s area has a pleasant setup, similar to what we’ve seen in the XEV 9E. The digital instrument cluster displays sharp graphics and presents plenty of useful details. You also get a head-up display that shows key information right in the line of sight.
The steering wheel feels comfortable to grip, even though it isn’t perfectly round. Its two-spoke design gives it a stylish, modern vibe, and the way it illuminates when the SUV powers on adds a nice touch. Behind the wheel, you’ll also find levers and paddles to adjust settings like regenerative braking.

Talking about quality, the cabin does feature several well-executed elements. The dashboard’s textured finish looks premium, the glossy inserts are neatly integrated, and the seat perforations are crafted with care. However, some hard plastics are noticeably visible, reminding you that the interior is a mix of high-end touches and a few cost-cutting areas.
You’ll want to be a bit mindful of the glossy trims inside, as they can pick up marks easily, and the light-colored seats also require regular upkeep to stay looking fresh. That said, the front seats themselves are impressive—they offer excellent support, feel spacious, and come with electric adjustments. Both the driver and front passenger seats are equipped with ventilation, adding to overall comfort.
The cabin also gets several noteworthy features. The SUV is fitted with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio setup with Dolby Atmos, delivering a rich listening experience. Additional highlights include customizable interior lighting, a clear 360-degree view camera system, and an auto-parking function that helps make tight maneuvers easier.
Mahindra XEV 9S: Features
Talking about storage, the rear hatch opens manually, so you’ll need to put in a little effort to lift it. With all three rows upright, the space at the back is quite limited—just enough for a few small soft bags.
However, once you lower the third row, the overall boot area expands significantly to around 500 litres, which makes it much more practical for longer trips. Mahindra has also fitted a spare wheel underneath the vehicle, which is a useful addition.
Another technical detail worth noting is the wheelbase. It’s slightly shorter than that of the XEV 9E, a change Mahindra made to allow the XUV700‘s exterior structure to fit onto the Inglo platform. The SUV offers 201 mm of ground clearance, and while the 9S shares the same architecture as the 9E, its wheelbase is still a bit more compact in comparison.
The XEV 9S gets three 12.3-inch screens, steering-mounted paddles, and a Boost feature for extra power. It’s a full 7-seater with a panoramic sunroof, armrests for both rows, and wireless charging for added convenience.
Mahindra XEV 9S: Battery & Range
The Mahindra XEV 9S comes with three battery choices — 59 kWh and 79 kWh — all placed within the side panel section of the body. Mahindra says the new 70 kWh pack offers the best balance of range and value.
In terms of numbers, the 59 kWh pack delivers around 521 km, the 70 kWh pack gives about 600 km, and the 79 kWh pack goes up to 679 km on certified range. It uses and LFP blade-cell battery setup and the first owner gets a 10-year warranty.
The SUV can be charged through both AC and DC sources, and its high-speed DC setup can handle up to 180 kW. When connected to a suitable fast charger, the battery can jump from 20% to 80% in roughly 20 minutes.
Mahindra XEV 9S Powertrain
The XEV 9S uses a rear-mounted motor that drives the back wheels, similar to the BE6 and XEV 9E. It offers three power outputs based on the battery pack, while torque stays steady at 380 Nm. The 59 kWh unit generates 231 hp, the 70 kWh version makes 245 hp, and the top-spec 79 kWh pack delivers 246 hp.
